A Hui was held in July to discuss a collective conservation education strategy for Taranaki. Wild for Taranaki thanks the active participation in this forum by many of our members. The key outcomes of this Hui were:
- Understanding what organisation is doing what around the region was identified as a key way to encourage collaboration, reduce duplication, and engage more people in education opportunities.
- Creating a conservation education information hub for the public and schools (online); running a promotional event for teachers, and having a regional coordinator to promote opportunities and make connections came across as key initial steps that would help us towards our vision.
- The hui was a valuable exercise for most, and is proposed to be carried on 2-3/year
There is still work to be done around defining the scope of the strategy, defining roles and responsibilities, and making connections with other groups not present. Discussions will continue around key roles and ongoing resourcing of this work as part of the Restore Taranaki Project.
