Join us for a evening of sea-themed conversations. Our two speakers for the evening will be Pat Medlicot and Naomi Pukatapu-Waite..
In his own words, Pat is NOT a penguin biologist. Luckily he has travelled among Penguins in the Auckland and Campbell Islands, Weddell Sea and Antarctic Peninsula, Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island a number of times between 1991 and 2002 both on Square rigged sailing vessels and more modern ice strengthened vessels and have interacted and photographed many Penguin species during that time as well as other wildlife.
Naomi whakapapas to Ngāruahine and Ngāti Ruanui. Her background is in geology, geography and she is a values-based science communicator, supporting Iwi led initiatives in science.
Naomi's research interests are in the interface of mātauranga Māori and science, where she am currently working on the Moana Project in a project management and communications role, and as a research lead on a project which aims to forecast storm surges in Aotearoa, NZ.
In addition to our speakers we will also have a screening of Reef Revolution and an opportunity for questions from the team at Project Reef Life.
