Wai Connection Webinar Brian Levine

Dr. Brian Levine shares his expertise on sediment mitigation options and gives insights into how we can collectively address sediment-related challenges in our region.

Biography:

Brian Levine holds a PhD in Soil Science from Massey University where he completed his thesis titled “The ability of detainment bunds to mitigate the impact of pastoral agriculture on surface water quality in the Lake Rotorua catchment”. He is the lead and co-author of multiple articles related to water quality mitigation strategies in pastoral agricultural settings, and wetland biogeochemistry, that appear in peer-reviewed scientific journals.  

Brian held the Land and Soil Scientist position at Taranaki Regional Council until December 2024 where he played a leading role in drafting and communicating the Regional Council’s proposed Land and Freshwater Plan ‘Baseline’ and ‘Target Setting’ memos for sediments, conducted soil quality monitoring, actively engaged with community groups including Taranaki Catchment Communities and Taranaki Regenerative Agriculture, and liaised with Massey University on their ‘Catchment Solutions Project’. Currently, Brian is a freelance scientist, consultant, speaker, facilitator, mentor, content creator and entrepreneur.
