The opportunity – For Taranaki to become a region where thriving biodiversity corridors reconnect forests, waterways, and communities.
Habitat fragmentation and climate change are placing increasing pressure on species and the ecosystems we all depend on. By linking restoration efforts of Wild for Taranaki members across the region, we can collectively amplify positive impacts — boosting species recovery, improving ecosystem health and resilience, and strengthening the wellbeing of our communities across Taranaki.
Biodiversity Corridors is a new workstream for Wild for Taranaki focused on developing and leading a cohesive strategy to accelerate and amplify the collaborative restoration of biodiversity corridors across Taranaki.
Supporting the development of biodiversity corridors directly aligns with our strategy and our purpose. Our strategic vision –Skilled, energized, and connected communities leading impactful regional – scale restoration – expresses the change we seek: empowered local groups driving collective action that adds to measurable ecological impact.
Enable, Connect, Advocate — defines how we contribute to regional restoration. We enable our members with tools and confidence, connect people and knowledge across the region, and advocate for collaboration that delivers lasting environmental outcomes.
Through this approach, Wild for Taranaki acts as a catalyst — bridging vision and action, connecting people and places, and ensuring that restoration across Taranaki is not just a collection of projects but a coordinated movement toward a thriving, connected ecological network across the region.
We are stewarding this kaupapa alongside iwi, hapū, community groups, landowners, agencies, and many other organisations — working together to bring the vision of connected biodiversity corridors to life.
Wild for Taranaki members will benefit from being part of a coordinated regional movement with a shared vision and action plan for thriving biodiversity corridors. This collective approach strengthens alignment, visibility, and access to local, national and international funding opportunities. Members gain opportunities to collaborate across projects, share knowledge, and connect with partners who amplify their impact.

Taranaki is home to a wealth of existing biodiversity pockets. The region’s fertile volcanic soils, reliable climate, and ample rainfall make it an ideal place to restore te taiao. Biodiversity restoration in the region is driven by dedicated, hard-working groups and organisations restoring habitats and protecting native species.
We are excited to work with our members on this kaupapa and facilitate the creation of a cohesive approach to accelerate and amplify the collective impact of Wild for Taranaki members and wider community on the restoration of biodiversity corridors across Taranaki. Read our blog here.
